Natural Home Remedies To Treat Acne

Most of us are familiar with the usual brand name acne fighting products that we can buy from the local drugstore, but only some of us are aware that you can try to get rid of your acne yourself with affordable and easy to make home remedies.

Whenever possible, get the most natural and organic ingredients of the remedy that you can find. By eliminating additional chemicals such as pesticides and preservatives, you are reducing the chances of irritating your skin further and increasing your chances of clearer skin.
Most likely, you’ll be able to find at least one great home remedy in this article that can help improve or eliminate your acne. The following is a detailed list of 10 acne treatments that you can make yourself using common household items.

1.  Apple Cider Vinegar

– Since ancient Greece, vinegar has been recommended by many people for the role it is thought to play in accelerating healing. This is due to the common ingredients found within vinegar which typically includes pectin, ash, potassium, calcium, copper, iron and acetic acid.
Science has not yet confirmed that apple cider vinegar has a part in controlling acne, however, multiple users have raved about visible results in as little as a few hours and for some people it has actually made their acne disappear.
It is thought to help acne for several reasons such as helping to control the bacteria responsible for acne, absorbing excess oil and helping to balance the pH level of skin. It also is thought to assist other acne treatments by stripping off old skin cells due to the acidity of the vinegar.
Many people who try apple cider vinegar on their face or body to fight acne make the mistake of not diluting it. Instead, they use 100% apple cider vinegar and this usually results in irritating their skin which can make acne worse. Most people start out on a mixture of 1 part apple cider vinegar to 3 to 5 parts water.
To apply this solution to your face or body, you can use either a spray bottle or cotton ball. Most people wait about 10 minutes before rinsing it off and repeat the treatment up to three times a day. Sometimes, people with severe acne leave the water and apple cider vinegar mixture on overnight.

2. Egg White Mask

Egg White Mask for acne

If your skin is prone to acne, chances are you have excess oil. Try making a face mask made out of egg whites. An egg white mask is a more well known home remedy to naturally tighten the skin while absorbing excess oil and has been used well before any acne product was ever created.
Just separate the egg white from the yolk and gently press the egg white onto your face. After about 10 minutes, rinse off with warm water. For best results, resist wiping your face dry with a cloth or towel and let your skin air dry without touching it.

3. Salsa

Salsa for acne

– A lesser known home remedy for acne sufferers with dry skin is eating salsa. It is said that if you eat about 2 tablespoons of salsa daily you can improve your acne. However, it is advised that if someone with oily skin eats too many tomatoes, their skin experiences even more oil production which can cause additional blemishes.
A blend of tomatoes, chili peppers and onions is what most salsa is made of and extra chili peppers are preferred if you intend to help your acne. The peppers are supposed to help moisten your skin which allows bacteria and oil to exit instead of becoming trapped and forming a pimple, blackhead or other kind of acne.

4.Tea Tree Oil

– Although pure tea tree oil (usually derived from the Australian Tea Tree) can aggravate your skin, when diluted, this naturally antimicrobial and antibacterial liquid can actually be just as effective as some store bought products in treating acne breakouts.
To dilute your pure tea tree oil to treat your acne, mix it into a 5% solution such as 5 drops of oil into 8 ounces of water. This mixture will kill the same bacteria and microbes that contribute to acne as benzoyl peroxide would. For best results, wash your face prior to applying the tea tree oil.

5. Lemon Juice

– Lemon juice is another popular home remedy for acne treatment. It works by increasing how often your skin produces new cells and opens clogged pores. Some people may be sensitive to lemon juice so they should dilute it and limit the amount of time it stays on their skin to avoid irritation.
After washing your face and/or body, apply pure lemon juice with a cotton ball to your affected areas. You have a choice to either rinse off the lemon juice after ten minutes or leave it on until the next time you wash your skin.
Calamine Lotion

– Most people do not associate calamine lotion with acne relief but rather with reducing itching with rashes and bug bites. The truth is that it is a natural product capable of calming your skin while helping to dry out pimples with no irritation.
To try to treat your acne with this calamine lotion home remedy, simply apply a light layer to your skin and just let it dry. After about an hour (or longer, if you prefer) rinse it off and be left with smoother skin.

7.Baking Soda

In order to make your own baking soda face scrub, mix 1 tablespoon of baking soda with 1 teaspoon of water. Wet your skin with water and massage the mixture for a couple of minutes. You can use it once a day without experiencing irritation unless you have sensitive skin.

8.  Aloe Vera

Aloe Vera for acne

– The gel made from the plant known as aloe vera has antibiotic ingredients and it also soothes irritated skin. This combination makes it able to prevent infection and calm your existing blemishes which means your acne should be less severe and occur less often.
It is most ideal to get the aloe vera gel straight from the plant since it is fresh and has no added ingredients such as preservatives. Aloe vera is an attractive and hardy house plant that is affordable to buy. You can also find aloe vera gel in bottles at the store.
Cut off one leaf down to the trunk of the plant. Cut that leaf down the middle but not all the way through. Take off the remainder of the plant skin and you will find the gel hidden underneath. Make sure your hands are washed and scoop out some of the gel on your finger. Rinse it with water and put it on your problem areas. Do not rinse it off – just let the gel be absorbed into your skin for the best result.

10. Toothpaste

Toothpaste for acne

–Most of you have heard of toothpaste being used to fight pimples. Although this home remedy for acne can help to dry out existing pimples, it doesn’t prevent them from happening in the first place so it is best used as a spot treatment.
First, wash your face and apply a bit of toothpaste to a cotton ball or sponge. This will reduce the chances of bacteria from your fingers being transferred to your face and possibly causing more acne. Dab the toothpaste on your acne and let it dry. For best results, it is recommended to leave the toothpaste on overnight to dry out and subsequently reduce your acne.
